Hiker Killed by Mentally Ill Man

January 9, 2008

As many people have heard, Georgia lost a beautiful young girl on New Year’s Day.  Meredith Emerson was a hiker that set out with her dog on New Year’s Day in the North Georgia mountains.  She was allegedly killed by a drifter named Gary Hilton.  I have been a therapist for more than 10 years and I can tell you that the look in his eyes scare me.  I see a man that has likely had a long history with mental illness, that truthfully may have never been diagnosed.  I pray that people are slow to rush to judgment and allow the judicial process time to work in this case.  Mr. Hilton needs a full mental evaluation so that any outcome at his trial will not overturned based on an undiscovered mental health issue.  I am saddened that Meredith died and I pray that you will keep her family and friends in your prayers.

What A Day!

I am writing this and watching history being made again on CNN.  McCain is now the newest “comeback kid” of the night.  I wonder if someone will think that the Age Discrimination Act should apply here if voters tag him out based on age.  I don’t get the best vibes from Romney, but I still think it’s history in the  making for him to get this far.  Barack and Hillary are close in the polls.  It is so endearing to see how many people are paying attention to who is in the Oval Office.  In 2000 there were a record number of voters.  It looks like 2008 will even surpass that number.  How awesome!

Hello world!

January 8, 2008

Good morning.  Wow this is my first foray into the world so exposed (like the day I was born…).  I am struggling to stay focused at work all the while trying to keep tabs on the primaries.  It is amazing watching history being made with the possibility of the first Black president, or the first female president, or the first Mormon president.  We truly do live in an age of change.  You either move with it or move aside!
